Joe,
After hearing that Texas is the heaviest polluting state in the country, beating out the next two combined, makes this story so much more relevant. If more people would use bikes to get to work, LEV (Low Emission Vehicles) and public transporation we would be doing future generations a huge favor.
Thank for posting that story.

There is one thing people don't think about. Everything in Texas is so spread out that you drive longer distances to work, to the store, etc.
How many people in Texas live less than 5 miles to work? How would you like to pedal 30-50 miles each way every day for work? So yeah, more distance means more driving, which in turn means more polution.

Bob,
I see your point, partly. You might notice that my comment was not only that people use bikes but LEV (Low Emission Vehicles) and public transportation as well. I can certainly agree that parts of Texas are spread out, I grew up in West Texas, but there are other means of transportation we could use to help cut pollution. Also in our house we recently switched to Reliant Energy's wind only electric service, Green Mountain Energy also offers this type of service. Plus there are many ways at home that we can make a difference that many of us don't. I realize also that Texas is deep in oil refining and that creates a lot of pollution, but as citizens we need to start somewhere and I believe starting with ourselves is a good place.
