Just in from Chris Phelan, the founder of the Ride of Silence.....

THE RIDE OF SILENCE

WHAT:

The Ride Of Silence will celebrate its fifth year of memorializing lost riders, exercising the legal rights of cyclist to use roads, and sending the message of Sharing The Road to motorists on MAY 16, 7 PM, at White Rock Lake. Cyclists still have a legal right to the road and motorists have a legal obligation to share the road. To date sites in Canada, Australia, Japan, Cyprus, the Caribbean, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Antarctica will be joining, riding on the same day, same time.

WHERE:

The start/finish location is the parking lot in the 3800 block of West Lawther at Branchfield.

The event as surpassed the original Dallas ride with it being truly world-wide. However, the Dallas ride is still the largest ride. Last year an estimated 3,000 attended. We want Dallas to continue this tradition so politicians, insurance companies, authorities and motorists can’t ignore us. (Note the pending mayoral elections.)

WHEN:

We will assemble peacefully, leave at 7PM local with all the other rides world wide, and ride less than 12 MPH, completing a loop of the lake in total silence. A bag pipe will play at the start of the ride and at the end. This is a free event, put on by volunteers, without a budget.

EXTRA:

To show solidarity, ALL cyclists are encouraged to wear black arm bans. If you’ve survived being a hit by a motorist, you are encouraged to wear both, black and red arm bans.

If you want to see/learn more, go to www.rideofsilence.org.

Spread the word and thank you for your passion on this issue.
